Explore Cabarete · Dominican Republic
The town, the water, the good stuff — picked by someone who lives here.
Cabarete is small enough to walk and big enough to weeks.
Here's my honest list — the beaches, the food, and the day trips worth getting up early for.
Beaches & water
Sand, wind and very blue water.
Kite Beach & the bay
The world-famous kite spot starts right along our beach. Mornings are calm for swimming; by afternoon the kites go up and the whole bay turns into a colour parade.
Playa Encuentro
The surf beach. Soft beginner waves close to shore, better ones further out — lessons with local instructors are easy to arrange, and I know who's good.
Snorkelling & catamaran days
Reef snorkelling, a cove for lunch, rum on deck. Half-day or full-day — I'll book you onto the small boats, not the party barges.
The quiet coves
A few beaches nearby never make the guidebooks. I'll draw you a little map of which one is empty on a Tuesday.
Eat & drink
Dinner with your feet almost in the sand.
Cabarete's strip is a string of beachfront restaurants and cafés. Fresh fish, Dominican classics, good coffee — and I'll tell you which ones the locals actually go to.
Sunset dinners on the strip
Tables right on the sand, grilled catch of the day, cold Presidente. Book the sunset slot — the sky does the rest.
Cafés & fresh juice
Proper espresso, smoothie bowls, mangoes that taste like mangoes. My favourite breakfast spot is a two-minute walk away.
The market & corner comedores
For the real Dominican plate — rice, beans, fried fish — skip the tourist menus. I'll point you where we eat on our day off.
Day trips
Worth getting up early for.
27 Waterfalls of Damajagua
Climb, jump and slide down a series of jungle waterfalls. My most-recommended trip — bring shoes you can get wet.
Puerto Plata by cable car
Ride up Mount Isabel de Torres for the view, then wander the old centre and the amber museum. Easy half-day.
Blue lagoons & caves
Inland springs and cenote-style swimming holes with water the colour of bottled glass. Quiet on weekdays.
Whales (in season) & Samaná
January to March, humpback whales off Samaná — one of the best shows in the Caribbean. Bookable as a long day trip.

When you arrive, I don't just hand over keys — I sit down with you, work out what kind of trip you want, and set it up. Tours, drivers, tables, the quiet beach. That's the part of this job I love most.
